As a PTA, we advocate for our students, families, and school community by helping ensure their voices are heard. We work alongside school and district leaders to support policies, programs, and resources that create a positive and enriching educational experience for every student.

Peak Perspective
Peak Perspective
Peak Perspective is a new community dialogue series designed to create an open, welcoming space for families to ask questions, raise concerns, and engage directly with community leaders about issues affecting our schools and students. Launching this fall, PPES will host conversations in September and November featuring invited local leaders and education advocates in small-group, tabletop discussions. Child care will be provided to help make these conversations accessible to more families.
The series will begin at PPES before expanding to other schools across District 8, creating opportunities for families throughout our community to connect, share perspectives, and build a stronger collective voice. Peak Perspective is being developed in collaboration with Public School Strong, a national movement that supports parents, educators, and community members in organizing to strengthen public schools.
Cardinal Cupboard Initiative
Cardinal Cupboard Initiative
The Cardinal Cupboard Initiative (CCI) is a school-based resource that helps ensure PPES students have access to food and basic necessities when they need them—always with privacy, care, and dignity. CCI provides snack baskets in every classroom, with snacks available through teachers on a need basis during the school day. The initiative is organized by the PPES PTA and sustained through the generosity of volunteers and donations from our school community. Together, we help make sure our students have the support they need to learn and thrive.

CARE (Community Advocates for Responsible EdTech) is a coalition of parents, educators, administrators, and students advocating for responsible educational technology policies and a student-centered, balanced approach to education in Wake County, NC and across the nation.

Cultural Arts: Diversity and Inclusion
Our PTA Advocacy Committee works to promote diversity and inclusion at PPES through engaging cultural arts programs and experiences for students. This year, PPES PTA is working with United Arts of Wake County, a nonprofit organization that connects Wake County schools and communities with artists, arts organizations, and cultural experiences. Its education programs include Artists in Schools, which helps bring professional teaching artists and arts experiences into Wake County public schools.

Special Education (SpEd) Advocacy
We believe every student deserves access to the support, services, and accommodations they need to thrive in school. Our advocacy work includes staying informed about changes to special education policy and ensuring families have opportunities to understand how those changes may affect students with disabilities. As federal agencies explore new approaches to coordinating special education and rehabilitative services, we will continue to monitor developments and share relevant information with our school community. We also aim to keep an open dialogue with families and provide resources to help parents better understand IEPs and Section 504 plans.
